Cardinals sign GM Keim to contract extension

12 febrero 2018 21:46

The Arizona Cardinals have signed general manager Steve Keim to a contract extension that will keep him with the organisation through 2022.

Keim was entering the final year of his contract, signed in 2015, though the Cardinals held a team option for 2019.

Arizona have gone 40-30-1 during his time as general manager. Keim is facing key decisions this offseason, including replacing retired quarterback Carson Palmer and potentially wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who has not made a decision on whether to continue playing.

The Cardinals reached the NFC Championship Game in the 2015 season with Bruce Arians as head coach. However, after missing the playoffs in successive seasons, Arians retired in January and has since been replaced by former Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.

"Steve's performance and accomplishments as Cardinals GM speak for themselves," team president Michael Bidwill said in a statement.

"His role in the team's success over the last five seasons is undeniable. This new contract ensures that he will continue to shape our success going forward and we are thrilled about that."

Keim, 45, will enter his 20th season with the Cardinals in 2018. He was promoted to general manager in January 2013 after spending the previous 14 years in the team's front office.
