Suns deny Hunt heading back to NRL in 2014

16 diciembre 2013 02:35

Media reports at the weekend said the code hopper was on the verge of join the Broncos ahead of the 2014 NRL season.

Gold Coast say they understand the interest in Hunt's future but insist he will remain in the AFL at least until the end of next year.

"Karmichael is contracted to the Gold Coast Suns for the 2014 season. At this point his pure focus, and that of the coaches', is on working really hard during pre-season to prepare himself for next year," a statement on the Suns website said.

"Karmichael had an injury interrupted season in 2013 and we are excited about the role he can play for the team next year with a full pre-season under his belt."

Hunt, a former NRL star who also played rugby union in France, has played 43 games with the Gold Coast after making his debut in 2011 and shown his capacity to play the game.

If Hunt did join the Broncos, it would leave Gold Coast two players short in 2014 following Campbell Brown's sacking earlier this month.

Another NRL club, Gold Coast Titans have also been in talks with Hunt's management during the year with Titans boss Graham Annesley saying they have room in the salary cap to make a play for Hunt.

Over the course of his five year stint in rugby league from 2004 to 2009, Hunt played 124 games for the Broncos, represented Queensland in 11 State of Origin games, and played 10 matches for Australia.
