MLB free agent rumors: Mets re-sign Jose Reyes to one-year deal

25 enero 2018 22:46

The Mets are bringing back Jose Reyes to fill a utility role, according to The Athletic.

Reyes will sign a one-year deal pending a physical.

The 34-year-old played the last two seasons with the Mets, batting .246 with 15 home runs and 24 stolen bases in 2017.

The former Rockies' and Blue Jays' shortstop has played each of the last two years on one-year contracts with the Mets. He played for $535,000 in 2017 and $507,500 in 2016.

Reyes is coming back to the team with the understanding he will not be the team's starting shortstop. With youngster Amed Rosario in the fold, the Mets will likely give the majority of at-bats to the 22-year-old.
