Mets´ DeGrom pulled after one inning in return from DL

New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom came off the disabled list and started against the Philadelphia Phillies but he was pulled from the line-up after just one inning. 

The Mets announced it was a proactive decision after a rain delay halted Sunday's 4-2 MLB loss to the Phillies for an hour and indicated DeGrom was removed because of his pitch count, not an injury.

DeGrom – an All-Star in 2015 – needed 45 pitches to get out of the first inning.  

The 29-year-old, who had been on the DL since May 2 as a result of elbow discomfort, said he was surprised by the decision.

"I was kinda surprised honestly. I definitely would've liked to go back out there. The reasoning I understand, but who wants to pitch one inning as a starter," he told reporters.

Off to a strong start this season, deGrom is 3-0 with a 1.83 ERA and 56 strikeouts.
