Meesawat leads the way into Super 6 showdown

Prom Meesawat's final-round 67 earned him a bye into the last 16 of the World Super 6 in Perth on Saturday.

The Thai finished two shots clear of the chasing pack on 12 under following the third and final round of stroke play, handing him an advantage in the match play that follows on Sunday.

Thorbjorn Olesen, Sean Crocker and Lucas Herbert closed on 10 under, while Dimitrios Papadatos, Brad Kennedy, Sam Horsfield and Yusaku Miyazato also secured top-eight spots, guaranteeing a seeded berth in the second round of match play.

Overnight leaders Brett Rumford, the defending champion, and Lee Westwood endured miserable days at Lake Karrinyup Country Club, with each carding a six-over-par 78 to miss out on the final day's play.

"I did well for the last two days, I only missed a couple of shots to put myself in the top position," said Meesawat.

"Very happy to finish first but still a lot of golf for and I think it's going to be good fun.

"It [a win] means a lot. I'm going to earn my European Tour card and it's going to be the first win for me on the European Tour.

"I'm just going to go out and have fun, concentrate with my game."

A play-off was needed to reduce a field of nine tied players down to eight, leaving 24 in total for the match-play phase.

Anthony Quayle was the man to miss out, as Meesawat's compatriot Kiradech Aphibarnrat held his nerve to edge through.
