Twelve-try Wakefield batter Hull to send Rhinos into Qualifiers

22 julio 2018 19:15

Wakefield Trinity sealed the final Super 8s spot and consigned Leeds Rhinos to the qualifiers with a 72-10 thrashing of shambolic Hull FC.

Leeds Rhinos were crowned Super League champions last year, but their top-flight status is under threat after Wakefield ran riot.

Chris Chester's side put sorry Hull to the sword, scoring six tries in each half to ensure they will be in the top tier next season.

Winger Tom Johnstone celebrated his new contract by scoring the opening try after being set up by Max Jowitt and David Fifita darted away to go over before Jacob Miller got in on the act.

Pauli Pauli added a fourth try, with Hull FC not knowing what had hit them, then Reece Lyne and James Batchelor touched down for a Wakefield side that had only won one of their previous five Super League matches.

Trinity carried on where they left off after the interval, Ben Jones-Bishop showing a sharp turn of foot to add a seventh try and Jowitt surging away for another following a break from Ryan Hampshire.

Miller, Lyne, Jones-Bishop and Pauli helped themselves to doubles as pitiful Hull were totally humiliated, scores from Liam Harris and Bureta Faraimo coming when Wakefield were a long way out of sight.

Ryan Hampshire scored 24 points with the boot on a memorable afternoon for Trinity.
