St Helens star Ben Barba became just the second player in history to win both the Dally M Medal and Man of Steel Award after claiming the latter prize on Monday.

Barba added to his 2012 Dally M Medal with the Super League's highest individual honour, joining fellow Australian Gavin Miller (1986 Man of Steel and 1988-89 Dally M) as the only players to claim both.

The 29-year-old Barba scored a Super League-leading 28 tries this season and also provided 24 assists.

Barba has already confirmed his future, signing a one-year deal with the North Queensland Cowboys to return to the NRL in 2019.

He becomes just the sixth Australian to win the Man of Steel Award, joining Miller, Adrian Vowles (1999), Jamie Lyon (2005), Brett Hodgson (2009) and Pat Richards (2010).

Barba helped St Helens win 26 of their 30 Super League matches before they suffered a surprise loss to Warrington Wolves in the semi-finals.

Shaun Wane, whose Wigan Warriors will face the Wolves in the Grand Final, was named Coach of the Year.

Castleford Tigers teenager Jake Trueman claimed the Young Player of the Year award.
