Qualification:
------------

54 teams qualify for the competition:
- 6 teams each from Argentina and Brazil;
- 4 teams each from Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela;
- 10 teams from Copa Libertadores.

The Copa Libertadores teams enter the competition directly at the 2nd Round.


Knockout stage:
------------

1st Round:
44 teams are drawn into 22 pairs.
Teams are divided into 2 regional pots:
Pot 1: Norte (the 22 teams from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela);
Pot 2: Sur (the 22 teams from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay).
Teams from Pot 1 are drawn against teams from Pot 2
Winners are decided over two legs.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

2nd Round:
22 teams from the 1st Round and 10 teams that enter the competition at this stage are drawn into 16 pairs.
Winners are decided over two legs.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

8th Finals:
16 teams are drawn into 8 pairs.
Winners are decided over two legs.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

Quarter-finals:
8 teams are drawn into 4 pairs.
Winners are decided over two legs.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

Semi-finals:
4 teams are drawn into 2 pairs.
Winners are decided over two legs.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

Tie-breakers for the knockout matches up to the Final:
1. aggregate score from the two legs, 2. away goals, 3. penalties.

Final:
The two Semi-finals winners meet each other with the winner becoming Copa Sudamericana winner.
The winner is decided over two legs.
The team with with higher draw number hosts the second leg.

Tie-breakers for the Final knockout matches:
1. aggregate score from the two legs, 2. extra time, 3. penalties.

Qualification for CONMEBOL competitions:
winner: Copa Sudamericana

Qualification for Intercontinental competitions:
winner: Suruga Bank Championship
